Fellowship of Christian Sportsmen Plus
The
concept of Fellowship of Christian Sportsmen Plus was started 6 years ago.
Three men were fly fishing on Lake Pactola, in the beautiful Black Hills
of South Dakota. We were discussing how to bring the Gospel to people through
outdoor activities and how to do this involving families – not just
the dads. We had heard there were 80,000 people in Sioux Falls, South Dakota
that didn’t attend church, and that a lot of them were involved with
out door activities on weekends – we wanted to be able to reach these
people. We wanted to use the outdoors to bring families together, to play
together, pray together and stay together.
Fellowship of Christian Sportsmen Plus (FCS Plus) coordinates many outdoor family adventures throughout the year. We call them “mom friendly”. The facilities where we lodge are provided in a family atmosphere. They have running water, hot showers, and the food is great. Many of these facilities have been donated to FCS Plus, therefore, we do not charge for these events. We compare this to churches not charging to come in their doors, we don’t charge any one to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ. There is also an opportunity for participants to give a free-will offering to offset any charges that FCS+ incurs with these events. The events are usually over-night activities – a time to bond together as families – be it the whole family, father/son, father/daughter, mother/son, etc. There is nothing like being with your son or daughter when they catch their first trout or shoot their first rooster pheasant. Memories that will be shared in the years to come. We bring Christian speakers and singers to witness to the group during a program on Saturday nights and hold a church service on Sunday morning after breakfast.
Some of the events and planned activities that we have are pheasant hunts, walleye fishing, fly fishing, shooting, bike riding, canoeing, golfing, camping, hiking and snowmobiling. Although not all these events are scheduled as of today, we are working on them and adding them to our event schedule. We are always open to new ideas for outdoor family adventures. We are always looking for outfitters or facilities that would like to see their lodge, camp or preserve, etc used in an outdoor ministry.

A
typical event would be to travel to the facility on Friday after work, check
in and socialize. This is when the kids get together and play games while
the adults unpack the toothbrushes. Saturday morning would include breakfast.
After everyone has had their fill of great food, instructions and safety
courses are offered. For example, for our fly fishing event, we have fly
fishing guides and instructors that teach adults and kids the fine art of
fly fishing, and then off to the event. A noon meal is provided. Saturday
evening would be supper and a program of Christian singers and/or speakers.
Sunday would include a breakfast and a non-denominational church service.
If there is a time (depending on where the event is hosted) more outdoor
activities can be planned and then we head home.
Life is about family – build it. FCS Plus believes that your family is of the utmost importance. Spending time with your family, making good memories and building solid relationships are crucial. FCS Plus exists to provide a safe, fun, adventurous outdoor retreat for families or single parent families with children of all ages. Food, lodging, and fun for the whole family with no damage to the pocket book.
